Pricing

Cake Tastings are $20 and need to be scheduled in advance. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 2 days before. The amount of cake I give to you is equivalent to a 6" cake but you get to choose 6 cake flavors and fillings. If you decide to use Sleepy Emu Sweets for your cake, and the final cake price is $500 or more, the $20 cake tasting fee will eventually be deducted off that final price. Tastings can be held at your home or another convenient location (coffee shop?).

Cake price depends on your particular cake/cake decorations. Elaborate designs, gumpaste decorations, or different fillings/flavors for each tier are extra, as are cakes that require gluten-free, sugar-free, vegan, or organic ingredients. Frosted, undecorated sheet cakes are cheaper per slice. Marzipan is extra if it is used on the outside of the cake.

Changing your order after you have paid is a minimum of $50.

Delivery is free within 20 miles of South San Francisco. Delivery to the rest of the Bay Area is between $30-$100 (depending on location) or you can arrange for the cake to be picked up.

Each cake tier is made up of four layers of cake and three layers of filling. If you want something different, let me know!

Tips: Choosing Between Fondant & Buttercream

When choosing between fondant and buttercream on the outside of your cake, you need to take into account two things: appearance, and taste. Buttercream tends to lend itself to crisper, squared-off edges while Fondant edges tend to be smoother and more rounded. Taste and texture-wise, fondant is sweet and has an elastic, clay-like consistency. This is often a turn-off, but I've found that most people who don't like fondant just eat around it or peel it off. Fondant is good for wedding cakes that might be outside or in a little warmer temperatures because it helps to keep everything in place. Buttercream can be flavored as desired and has a nice, creamy texture. If it is true buttercream (made with butter, not Crisco), it won't hold up quite as well in warmer temperatures. I would say this isn't as much of a problem in the Bay Area, though. If your cake decorations require painting or airbrushing, fondant tends to be the better choice.

About Emus

The Emu is a large (max. ~6.6 ft tall), flightless bird, native to Australia. It is a relative of the Ostrich and can run at speeds of 30 mph. Emus are occasionally farmed for their eggs, meat and oil, which supposedly has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects (but isn't proven in humans).
